Spencer (my hubby) and I went and watched the movie Lion in theaters tonight. I loved it... and I might have cried harder than I have in any other movie... But there was one part that I wanted to bring up. When adopted, Saroo is able to adjust to a loving home. He loves and appreciates his parents right away and is able to control himself. However, his adopted brother who comes a year later obviously did not come from a loving home. He has problems controlling his energy and will often self harm himself. It reminded me of this scripture: Matt 5: 45 , "That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust." I thought of this scripture for two reasons. One, our parental influence is so great on our children. We help determine if the child is able to adjust and use their lives for good without getting hurt. However, I love this verse because it tells us we are children of a just and loving Father. Therefore, if we have been put in sub par earthly families, we can turn to this Heavenly Father and use him as an example to stop the chain of abuse. He will always be there for us, and he will help heal us from the pain that the past has caused us. Through Him, it (the past) cannot hold us captive.
